On Friday 11 May 2018 Marsden Mechanics Trustees and invited guests celebrated the newly refurbished Marsden Library.

The Trust raised funds from South Pennine Leader Programme,  Keyfund, European Regional Fund for Agricultural Development, Shaw Brothers  and Friends of Marsden Library to update the Library space within the Mechanics to provide an attractive place for library users and to create a multi-functional room that can be hired by community groups for small events.  The Friends of the Library also raised funds, largely through calendar sales that contributed to the costs of the refurbishment.

The celebration was attended by Library staff and volunteers, members of the Friends of the Library local councillors and our MP Thelma Walker.

Mark Crowe, joint Chair of the Mechanics Trustees was the MC and thanked all those involved in the work.  Marsden poets David Coldwell and Jo Haslam talked about how the Library inspired them in their journey to becoming poets, as well as reading a couple of their poems each.

If you haven’t visited the new Library yet please take time to go in to view it.  Its light and bright and the curved ceiling that now reveals the full length of the windows is a thing of beauty.
