Made in Manchester: The City that Shaped the Modern World
The astonishing history of how the people of Manchester and its surrounding region led the emergence of the industrial and commercial world as we know it, from the Romans to today, will be outlined in an illustrated talk by Brian Groom, author of the bestselling Northerners: A History. Based on his latest book, Made in Manchester, Brian will talk about individuals, famous or not, who built the region and its culture and ask what part it can play in Britain’s – and the world’s – future.
Brian Groom is a journalist, formerly assistant editor and political editor of the Financial Times. He also launched and later edited Scotland on Sunday, the Scotsman’s Sunday paper. Originally from Stretford, Greater Manchester, he now lives in Saddleworth.
