SUMMARY:An Evening with Graphic Novelist Jamie Rhodes
DESCRIPTION:  \nJoin us for an evening with graphic novelist Jamie Rhodes. Jamie will read an extract from his graphic novel\, “A Castle in England” and tell us about the project that inspired it\, in which he spent 4 months living in a National Trust castle creating stories inspired by the objects and documents in its archive\, plunging us into its rich and often dark history. \nAbout Jamie \nJamie Rhodes is a writer and academic working in comics\, books\, TTRPG\, and film. His first book was published in 2014 after he worked with the British Library to write a collection of stories inspired by unusual documents in the library archives. The collection\, Dead Men’s Teeth\, launched with a series of dramatic readings at the British Library‘s Brontë Room.  \nA Castle in England is his first graphic novel\, the result of a collaboration with the National Trust as Scotney Castle’s Writer-in-Residence\, writing a graphic novel inspired by the castle’s archive collection. The book was published by Nobrow Press in 2017 and nominated for a prestigious Eisner Award at San Diego Comic Con 2018.  \nAfter moving back to West Yorkshire\, Jamie wrote and co-directed an award-winning short film\, Amputee (2020). The film made the official selection of 22 film festivals worldwide and was nominated for Best Short Film at Cannes Shorts. In 2021\, Jamie started his PhD in Philosophy & Creative Writing. From affection for his family home at Harts Hole grew a wider understanding\, and a deeper appreciation\, of the landscape as a whole. Their travels inspired her debut novel\, The Beach. DESCRIPTION:This Event has been cancelled: \nIn light of the increasing threat of the Coronavirus outbreak\, it is with great sadness that we announce that this year’s Huddersfield Literature Festival is cancelled. \nAlthough we were able to run several successful pre-Festival events\, we feel that we have to take this global pandemic seriously for the sake of our authors\, performers\, audiences\, Festival team and volunteers. \nWe will be making announcements about one or two events that we feel can potentially be rescheduled in the Autumn in due course. Ticket holders for other paid-for events will be issued with refunds as soon as possible. DESCRIPTION:This event has been cancelled.\n\nSimon Armitage writes “With great sadness and reluctance I’m sorry to announce that I am postponing my tour of libraries for the week 16 – 21 March 2020. I have arrived at this decision after seeing so many other events being put on hold or cancelled\, and I feel the only logical and sensible decision is to do the same. The week would have involved meeting upward of a thousand people and travelling around England\, Scotland and Northern Ireland on public transport; as well as needing to look after myself and my family I need to think responsibly about audiences\, staff at the venues\, fellow poets and everyone else connected with the tour. Hopefully these events will be rescheduled once the world is a calmer and clearer place. In the meantime\, my thanks and sincere apologies to all the wonderful libraries and librarians of Britain who had been working so hard to make this happen. We are hoping to reschedule this event.\n\nLive Screening from the British Library\n\n\nUsing the alphabet as a guide\, each spring for the next decade Simon Armitage will give readings across the UK\, from the flagship libraries of the big cities to smaller libraries serving rural and remote communities.
