Thanks to support from the Cuckoo’s Nest, and our fabulous local Chinese Takeaway, Fu Lin, Marsden celebrated Chinese New Year in style yesterday – and raised over £500 to support the Friends of Marsden Library as well!
Visitors to the Friends Of Marsden Library’s Chinese New Year Celebration arrived to find the hall transformed, a vision in red and gold with Chinese New Year Decorations twinkling in the February sun.
Activities were fun for all the family: crafts and mask making, a real dragon!, Chinese calligraphy and spring-roll making, Fortune Cookie lucky dip, and a wonderful display of Chinese Artefacts.
But the highlight was the fantastic Chinese food from Fu Lin, with non-Chinese cake for anyone that still felt hungry.
The event was rounded off with a raffle, and speeches from Friends of Marsden Library’s Sheila Bates, our local councillor Rob Walker, and culminating in a wonderful short talk about Chinese New Year customs from Michelle He, the owner of Fu Lin.
See you all again next year, for Year of the Pig!
