Friends of Marsden Library welcomes the news that, following the most recent Library Service consultation, Kirklees MBC has committed to the principle of retaining the Library Service in house and keeping our remaining 24 libraries open.
In the context of austerity and the current pressures on local government funding, this is a positive outcome and we will work actively and constructively with the Kirklees Library Service team to ensure the best possible future for our Library in Marsden.
There will be place-by-place meetings with each Library to discuss provision tailored to local need, which Friends of Groups and volunteers will be able to take part in, and we look forward to taking full part in that discussion in due course.
In the meantime, FoML’s priority is to continue to support our Library through putting on events to attract people into the Library and enhance the enjoyment of our community, and helping to recruit and support volunteers to work in the Library.
Volunteering will continue to be an important part of keeping the Library open, so please get in touch if you’re interested – see our volunteering page for more info.
And we’ve got a variety of events in planning, kicking off with our joint Poetry Village – Northern Writers Reading event on National Poetry Day, 4th October.
The Library Service has produced a short summary of the consultation and outcome.
