Accessing the Library During the Works
The Marsden Community Trust, which runs the Mechanics, was recently successful in obtaining a grant to carry out improvement works in the Library area.
The improvements will create a flexible space with the potential for multiple uses. The suspended ceiling in the Library will be removed, and the windows unblocked, bringing in more natural light, and the fluorescent lighting will be replaced. The Library staff and volunteers working in the Library will have a more private office. There will be improved signage on the outside of the building.
When the work is finished, we will have an attractive library space, and additional space that can be hired out, providing much-needed income for the Mechanics.
When will the work start?
Work is expected to start on Monday 12th February, and to go on for about six weeks.
What will happen to the Library whilst the work is being carried out?
You’ll still be able to borrow library books. The Library will be providing a book borrowing and returning service from the Foyer and Meeting Room of the Mechanics. This service will be available:
- Monday to Friday 9am – 12pm
- Saturday 10am – 12pm, when a member of Library staff will also be present.
You can also access books electronically, via Overdrive:
Newspapers and magazines are accessible via Press Reader:
Computer sessions at other libraries can be booked online, and opening hours for other libraries are available online, and you can check opening times or contact another library by phone 01484 414868.
The Library will re-open after Easter, when we look forward to welcoming you once again.
